Day 2

My roommate Dave got here today.  He's from BC and he's from Danbury, CT.  For my Degrazia followers, he's Dom Boccio's roommate.  We spend a significant part of the day exploring the area.  We got lunch at a nice little pizza place, then searched almost entirely unsuccessfully for a place to get me a phone charger, a citibank, and a gym.  We found a million phone stores, but they all told me to go somewhere else.  The bank we found, and we found a gym but it was kinda far.  The city was busy, with tons of people shopping.  The Avenida Cabildo was packed with stores and vendors, very much like Broadway in Manhattan around the Spring St. area.
We returned after a few hours and immediately jumped in the pool.  Today was much cooler (about 80 degrees today) but the humidity is relentless.  We showered, hung out, and ate, then sat with Tito and Susy for at least an hour speaking in Spanish.  I've already gotten much much better.
Now we're getting ready to go out with the other BC students.  Apparently bars and the like don't get going until at least 1am, peaking around 3, and never returning home before 4.  Talk to you soon, hopefully with pictures!

Nobody told me this city is actually a rainforest

It is so hot and so much more humid.  When the plane landed it got warmer inside the cabin, because it was 95 degrees out.  When I told my taxista (taxi driver) "Hace calor" (its hot), he said "muchisimo" (extremely).
My flight went ok.  I showed up 2.5 hours early as suggested, to find out it had been delayed 2 hours.  Hung out with mom and pops and Marie for a bit, then finally went through security and boarded.  Then the plane sat on the runway for 45 minutes because "flight information was being downloaded".
When we took off at about 1am, every single orange light in Queens and Brooklyn was on.  It was awesome because it looked like an enormous sea of little fires, all organized into lines and shapes.  After a few naps I woke up and peeked out the window to see that we were directly over the Amazon rainforest in the heart of Brazil.  We flew directly over the river.  It was incredible.  Ive never seen that many trees or that big of a river before.
The taxi took me through a few neighborhoods of the city and its suburbs.  Its an awesome looking city, a little dirty, but busy and beautiful.  We passed a few parks which looked promising, about 11,000 soccer fields, and 14,000 billboards for things that have to do with soccer.
Tito, the patriarch of my homestay, met me at the door when we pulled up.  He's a friendly man of 70, who seems to be old and completely blind at times, and completely healthy at others.  His wife Susy is very nice as well.  Tito's son-in-law Diego came over for a swim in the pool around 4, later followed by his wife Marina, Tito's son Miguel and his two sons (I don't know their names so I'll call them Diego Jr. and Javier), Tito's second son Mariano, and his female companion of some sort.  Everybody was super friendly, all teaching me Spanish and asking questions.
This has gone on too long so Im summing the rest of the day up: unpacked, sweated, water break, pool, water break, shower, unpacked, skype, sweated, water break, skype, this.  Buenas noches!

Gettin Ready

Que pasa? So I'm getting things ready for my semester in Buenos Aires. I'm leaving on Thursday, exactly 48 hours from right now. I'm starting to get a little nervous, something that very rarely happens with me. I wanted to make a blog so that everybody can see what's happening with me when they have time, rather than trying to get in touch with people from 6000 miles and 2 time zones away. So tell your friends and family to check this page out!
I'll try to update this fairly often, definitely every time something cool happens. I'll post some cool pictures and videos, and keep it up-to-date with everything that I do. If anybody has suggestions on how to make this a more enjoyable reading experience (i.e. larger font, different page colors, more pictures, less talk of nothing, etc) please let me know.
Gotta get back to packing now. Hasta luego amigos
